Snider starts new job

Canton’s former administrator Jim Snider is back to work.

“My first day is today,” emails the new administrator of Fairview Heights, which is on the Illinois side of St. Louis.

Snider left his position in Canton on May 7, when new Mayor Jeff Fritz took office.

The Fairview Heights City Council approved a $110,000-a-year contract on a 5-4 vote last night. In his usual understated fashion, Snider thanked the council and got right to work.

“I appreciate the confidence of the majority of the city council,” Snider said, according to the local newspaper. “I understand not supporting it because of the numbers, but, I’m very confident I can do a good job for you. I look forward to working with you all and being open with you. I will do my best to help you make the best decisions for the people of Fairview Heights.”

Per contract in Canton, Snider was to get $56,000 from the city over three months after he left. He made around $80,000 here.
